Here at The Coolector, we have a profound appreciation for brands that understand the heritage of horology but aren’t afraid to have a bit of fun with it. Watchmaking is, by its nature, a serious business of precision and mechanics, but that doesn’t mean it can’t come with a serving of mischief.
This is the entire philosophy of Parisian watch artist Romaric André, better known as Seconde/Seconde/. He has built a cult following by playfully reimagining timepieces, turning stoic dials into modern, conversation-starting works of art. So, when Spinnaker—a brand we admire for its robust, adventure-ready dive watches—announced the second batch of their 2025 Edition collaboration, we knew it would be something special.

The Spinnaker Fleuss 40 Automatic Seconde Seconde 2025 Edition is a masterclass in blending serious specifications with a ghostly, irreverent charm.

This isn’t just a watch; it’s a narrative piece. The collaboration centres on an unmistakable “phantom” dial, cloaked in a spectral grey. In the daylight, it’s a handsome, legible timepiece, but the real story, as the brand hints, doesn’t end with what the eye can see.

Hidden surprises lie within. When the lights go down, this watch truly comes to life. The Swiss Super-LumiNova is applied in the most playful way imaginable: glowing ghosts flicker to life in the dark. This isn’t just lume; it’s a “playful haunting” that reveals itself only in time, perfectly capturing the spirit of Seconde/Seconde/.

This 2025 edition, for the first time, offers the design in two case sizes (a classic 40mm and a larger 43mm), but we’re particularly fond of the 40mm variant. It hits the sweet spot for a modern diver, with a 47mm lug-to-lug distance that promises a superb fit on the wrist.

While the ghostly dial is the star of the show, the hardware it’s built on is pure, unadulterated Spinnaker quality. The 316L stainless steel case is meticulously engineered and rated for 15 ATM (150 metres) of water resistance, secured by a screw-down crown.

This is a watch that, despite its artistic flair, is ready for genuine underwater escapades. The newly designed sunray-brushed bezel perfectly mimics the phantom design, creating a cohesive and hauntingly beautiful ensemble.

Protecting that spectral dial is a scratch-resistant sapphire lens with an anti-reflective coating, ensuring crystal-clear readability whether you’re checking the time or hunting for ghosts in the dark. The watch feels substantial, weighing in at 150 grams on its upgraded, solid stainless steel bracelet, which features a secure fold-over buckle.

A timepiece this unique deserves a reliable engine, and Spinnaker has opted for the excellent Miyota 9015 automatic movement. This Japanese workhorse is a favourite among enthusiasts for its slim profile, which allows the Fleuss to maintain an elegant 12.9mm case thickness, and its high-beat frequency of 28,800 BPH.

This high beat rate gives the second hand a smooth, sweeping motion, complemented by 24 jewels and a 42-hour power reserve. It’s a robust, reliable calibre that ensures this watch is far more than just a pretty face.

For those looking to change the mood, Spinnaker generously includes an extra white nylon strap, which will undoubtedly give the watch a fresh, spectral vibe for the summer months.

At $525, this collaboration is a phenomenal offering. It’s a piece that challenges norms, blends craftsmanship with innovation, and proves that a dive watch can tell stories that stay close to the sea, even if those stories are ghost stories.
