Alpine Shield: Outdoor Vitals Tushar Rain Jacket

Anyone who spends real time on high-elevation trails knows the bitter compromise of traditional rain shells.

You’re typically forced to choose between a heavy, bulletproof jacket that bogs down your pack, or an ultralight shell that tears on the first stray branch and leaves you drenched in your own sweat.

Outdoor Vitals set out to crush that compromise with the Outdoor Vitals Tushar Rain Jacket.

Currently available on sale for £153, this high-performance technical shell tips the scales at a featherlight 7.4 ounces (size Large) while delivering all-day storm protection engineered for severe alpine conditions.

Dual-Membrane Body-Mapping & TORAIN™ Tech

Named after Utah’s rugged Tushar Mountains—a range notorious for sudden, punishing high-altitude deluges—this jacket isn’t just lightweight; it’s exceptionally smart.

Powered by Toray Torain® 3D 2.5-layer waterproof breathable lamination, the Tushar utilizes two distinct, body-mapped waterproof membranes to optimize protection and vapor transfer simultaneously.

* Total Weight: 7.4 oz (Size Large)
* Outer Shell: 20D Micro-Ripstop Nylon
* High-Pressure Zones: Hydrophobic Membrane (28,500mm HH / 20,000g Breathability)
* High-Vapor Zones: Hydrophilic Membrane (15,500mm HH / 28,900g Breathability)
* Seams & Zips: Fully Torain® Taped Seams & YKK® AquaGuard® Zippers

In high-pressure impact areas—like across the shoulders and back where heavy backpack straps can force water through standard fabrics—a hydrophobic membrane provides a massive 28,500mm hydrostatic head rating.

Meanwhile, across the core areas where heat builds up, a hydrophilic membrane ramps breathability up to an astounding 28,900g to pull body heat and sweat away from your base layer.

No More Clammy Skin: The 3D Printed Interior

One of the biggest complaints with ultralight 2.5-layer rain gear is the dreaded “plastic bag” feel when wet weather hits.

Outdoor Vitals solved this by incorporating a raised 3D-printed interior half-layer across the inside of the jacket.

“By physically keeping the waterproof membrane off your bare skin, the 3D-printed interior matrix eliminates that cold, clammy feeling while creating air channels that boost overall ventilation.”

Fitted with a durable 20D micro-ripstop nylon face fabric, the Tushar offers true trail durability against overgrown brush and granite scrapes without adding unnecessary bulk to your kit setup.

Feature-Packed for Thru-Hiking & Fastpacking

Despite keeping its dry weight down to 7.4 ounces, Outdoor Vitals didn’t strip out essential mountain features.

The Tushar comes equipped with pit zip vents to dump heat on steep ascents, a secure zippered chest pocket, and an anatomically cut hood that stays locked down when the wind picks up.
