Stormproof Geodesic Fortress: Heimplanet Mavericks Black/Dune Tent

When it comes to revolutionising outdoor architecture, German outfit Heimplanet has always marched to the beat of its own drum. Back in 2011, they sent shockwaves through the camping world by swapping traditional, bendable aluminium poles for high-pressure inflatable airframes.

While models like The Cave became instant cult classics for weekend wild campers, the brand has always harboured a serious appetite for extreme alpine expeditions.

Enter their crowning engineering achievement: the Heimplanet Mavericks Black/Dune Tent.

Priced at an uncompromising £5,161 (~$6,800), this isn’t your run-of-the-mill festival pop-up; it is a full-blown geodesic base camp fortress engineered to survive the most hostile environments on Earth, from Patagonian wind tunnels to frozen Himalayan passes.

What separates the Mavericks from any other expedition shelter is its monumental structural integrity. At its core is Heimplanet’s signature Inflatable Diamond Grid (IDG), an intricate geodesic matrix built from a double-layer airframe with heavy-duty structural chambers.

While assembling a traditional multi-pole base camp tent in sub-zero temperatures and high winds is often an exhausting, multi-person nightmare, the Mavericks requires zero frame assembly.

You simply roll it out, connect the pump to the central One Pump System valve, and let the air chambers do the heavy lifting in just a few minutes—all achievable by a single person.

Once fully inflated, the geodesic geometry distributes external stress evenly across the entire frame. The tent has been rigorously tested to withstand punishing wind speeds of up to 180 km/h (112 mph).

For worst-case expedition scenarios, Heimplanet incorporated its patented Multi-Chamber Safety System: once inflated, the airframe can be partitioned into independent chambers using integrated valves.

If one strut were ever punctured by flying rock or debris, the surrounding chambers remain fully pressurised, guaranteeing emergency stability and keeping the shelter upright.

Inside, the Mavericks offers an expansive living space that redefines base camp comfort. Boasting over 13.2 square metres (142 square feet) of usable floor area and an interior standing height of two full metres, occupants can walk around comfortably without hunching.

It provides ample room for expedition teams to sleep, plan routes around field tables, or shelter mountain equipment during extended whiteouts.

“Constructed to shrug off 180 km/h gale-force winds and pitched in minutes by a single pair of hands, the £5,161 Heimplanet Mavericks transforms extreme expedition living into an art form.”

Access is seamless thanks to three generous zip-up doorways, complemented by three crystal-clear TPU windows that let in natural alpine light while keeping the elements out.

Furthermore, strategically placed ventilation ports along the base and the roof promote continuous airflow, preventing the stuffy condensation buildup common in heavy-duty shelters.

Heimplanet has updated the Mavericks with an eco-conscious philosophy. The tent is 100% PFAS-free, eliminating harmful “forever chemicals” without compromising waterproof performance.

The flysheet features an eco-friendly C0 DWR coating rated to 5,000mm hydrostatic head, while the heavy-duty 10,000mm floor is fully removable when required.
