Apollo Regolith & Tactile Metallurgy: Nuncier NASA Lunar Mission Watch

Humanity’s fascination with space exploration has inspired countless wristwatches, but few manage to translate the rugged, desolate beauty of the lunar surface into wearable design quite like independent watchmaker Nuncier.

Rather than settling for a standard printed dial or a predictable case profile, the brand has looked directly at the historic Apollo landings for aesthetic cues. The result is the Nuncier NASA Lunar Mission Watch, an architectural, texture-heavy celebration of humankind’s greatest extra-terrestrial journey.

Priced at an approachable $999 (~£770) and strictly limited to just 100 pieces worldwide, this exclusive timepiece brings genuine tactile storytelling to the wrist, echoing the cratered regolith and industrial gear of the astronauts who first ventured beyond Earth.

The dial of the Lunar Mission Watch serves as a miniature topographic map of the Sea of Tranquillity. Nuncier has rendered the dial base in a deeply cratered, three-dimensional lunar texture that plays dramatically with light and shadow from every angle.

Standing out against this rocky terrain are raised, sculpted hour indices and sharp hands generously coated in Swiss Super-LumiNova BGW9, ensuring clear, ice-blue legibility in total darkness.

The true emotional centrepiece of the dial, however, sits at the 6 o’clock position: a meticulously stamped astronaut footprint, paying permanent tribute to that fateful “one small step” taken in July 1969. The entire panoramic view is protected by a scratch-proof sapphire crystal treated with an anti-reflective coating.

Encasing this lunar landscape is a proprietary metallurgical innovation that Nuncier calls “Titarete.” Recognising that conventional polished or brushed steel would feel far too terrestrial, Nuncier developed an in-house architectural finish that fuses the raw, textural character of cured concrete with the lightweight structural performance of Grade 2 titanium.

Measuring 40.5mm across, 47mm from lug-to-lug, and boasting a remarkably slender profile of just 10mm in thickness, the cushion-adjacent case wears with exceptional comfort and modern wrist presence.

The matte concrete finish offers a warm, tactile, stone-like feel that naturally resists visible scratches and fingerprints, while titanium’s inherent corrosion resistance and high strength-to-weight ratio provide genuine field-ready toughness. Backed by a robust 10 ATM (100-metre) water resistance rating, it easily handles everyday adventures.

Flipping the watch over reveals an exhibition caseback that continues the lunar narrative. Powering the watch is the ultra-thin, premium Japanese Miyota Calibre 9039 automatic movement.

Beating at a high-frequency 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz) across 24 jewels, this reliable engine provides a smooth seconds sweep with zero phantom crown positions.

The showstopper on the reverse is the bespoke oscillating weight, intricately sculpted into the silhouette of a tethered astronaut floating effortlessly across the cosmos as your wrist moves.

Nuncier completes the package with two interchangeable “Nanoband” straps in grey and white. Crafted from high-grade nanotech rubber with a woven fabric texture, these straps are engineered with ‘DirtResist’ properties to shed dust, grime, and water without staining.

Fitted with matching Titarete titanium pin buckles, the Nuncier NASA Lunar Mission Watch ($999) is an inspired, tactile homage to Apollo history that stands head and shoulders above generic space chronographs.
