Nine Arches: The Ultimate Adventure Game

One of our abiding memories of growing up in the 80s and 90s here at The Coolector is reading / playing choose your own adventure books so we were understandably delighted to come across a new Kickstarter campaign that taps into this superbly. The Nine Arches: The Utlimate Adventure Game on Kickstarter is a stunning game that pairs the magic of Tarot with the thrill of a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure. And, quite frankly, it’s taking the crowdfunding platform by storm.

The Nine Arches Ultimate Adventure Game can be yours for a bargain price of $44 which is 20% off the final retail price and will score you a Basic Nine Arches Kit to get your adventuring going. This fantastic looking game on Kickstarter is the brainchild of Geoffrey Gray who has covered some of the world’s most interesting and adventurous people, and has been featured in The New Yorker, This American Life, Fast Company, and other outlets. For the design, he has joined forces with veteran game designer Grant Shonkwiler,  who after working on Fortnite and Doom was also looking for a way to inspire players to be more active in the real world.

ADVENTURE AWAITS

With Nine Arches there are no winners, nor losers. No game consoles, nor plastic pieces, nor a board to move your pieces around. And that’s sort of the point. It is a brand new game that is purpose-built to peel players away from their phone screens and kitchen tables, and it has rapidly become a runaway hit on Kickstarter with over $100k in funding so far – testament to the fact there are a lot of people out there who have been waiting for an adventure like this.

The Nine Arches: The Ultimate Adventure Game (from $44) was funded in just 6 minutes, and was supported by over 1,000 backers in only three days. Geoffry Gray created Nine Arches as a new kind of game for us all to escape the algorithm and do real things that make us feel vibrant and alive and if that sounds like something you’d want to be a part of, you should definitely head on over to Kickstarter now as their campaign only has a few days left to score the bargain price.

For this brilliantly conceived game, the world is your playing platform, and you don’t need a strong wifi connection to get to the next level. All you need is a willingness to do and try new things. Simple as that. The game play of Nine Archers happens in rounds, and revolves around a mystical deck of challenge cards. All the cards are hand‒drawn and categorised in four ‘power’ suits—Delight, Escape, Flow—designed to increase your levels of vitality. To date, nearly 1,000 testers from around the world have completed the cards, with adventures from spending the night alone in a national park for Cave of Fears, to designing, building and swimming in a lap pool of hay for Open Swim, or biking through the streets of Bombay at dawn. Looking for something a little different? Nine Arches is for you.
