The Oswalds Mill Audio Special K Amplifier is positively overflowing with old school cool and will add an abundance of retro charm to any audio aficionado’s line up. OMA get their name from two century year old mill in Eastern Pennsylvania, restored by OMA founder Jonathan Weiss. In that mill Jonathan assembled an eye-catching collection of vintage cinema and studio audio equipment, especially horn loaded loudspeakers, dating back to the 1930’s and it is these devices which serve as the inspiration for the top quality creations they produce – like this spectacular Special K Amplifier

DEVILISHLY DAPPER DESIGN

The DNA of Oswalds Mill Audio are the cinema speakers and electronics from the 1930s and this is a particular golden age of product design when triodes were the norm and amplifiers were cased in beautiful vertical racks. With this in mind, OMA went back to this configuration in the design of their latest and most powerful amplifier to date – the Special K. It has to be seen to be believed and boasts not just an astounding visual gravitas but also a compelling performance that sets it apart from the competition.

Brilliantly conceived and crafted, the Special K Amplifier from Oswalds Mill Audio has an integrated design like all the other OMA amplifiers, and requires no preamplifier. 8 new production KT88 tubes in pure Class A triode connected push pull design produce nearly 50 watts per channel into 8 ohms. Full dual mono construction with CCS on the 6J5/6BX7 input/driver stages, all transformers custom wound, amorphous core with silver OPT’s and internal wiring. In laymen’s terms, it’s an impressive bit of kit.

There are all sorts of superb design details to the Special K Amplifier that really elevate it above the competition which includes custom Hoyt meters, a cast iron, nickel and lacquered wood construction with tempered glass front that ensures this amplifier is unparalleled visually as well as sonically. If you’re serious about your music, this is the sort of gear you need to invest in. The bandwidth measurements on Special K are astonishing for a tube amplifier, with -2db points at 10hz and 85Khz – like what you see? Head on over to the OMA site now.
