The Ressence x Hodinkee Type 1 Slim HOD3 Limited Edition Watch ($22,500) is Hodinkee’s third collab with the watchmaker and it is billed as a streamlined study in muted contrasts. It is an evolution of Hodinkee’s past collaborations with the boundary-pushing Belgian brand and builds on the elegant yet complex aesthetic of the slimmed-down and skeletonized Type 1 HOD, this very limited run blacks out the majority of the watch, adding a new and surprising visual depth to a mechanically sensational watch.

Aesthetically superior from top to bottom, the case of the HOD3 is milled from one single block of grade 5 titanium which delivers a sleek unified construction. Every surface of the timepiece is DLC coated which ensures it has a rich and multi-faceted black colour that amplifies the shadow and depth created by the honeycomb skeletonized dial.

While the DLC coating provides the watch with a new visual impact, many of the hallmarks of the Type Watch 1 are kept intact. The ROCS: the Ressence Orbital Convex system remains the dark heart of the timepiece and will leave jaws on the floor. This revolutionary mechanism replaces the static, multi-layered dial and hands with a display where hours, minutes, and seconds orbit each other in a single plane.

It consists of a total of 107 parts and is driven by the minute axle of an automatic movement, beating at 28,800 vph with a 36-hour power reserve. The timepiece remains without a crown, relying on the recessed lever that flips out from the caseback; this enhances the already impressive ergonomics, making the Type 1 Slim HOD just as wearable on the right or left wrist.
