1972 Citroën SM

Though you might not know it by looking at them today, Citroën actually had some of the coolest looking cars out there back in the day as this stunning 1972 Citroën SM admirably illustrates. Available to purchase from luxury car specialists, Artcurial, this spectacular steed has a guide price of $85-130k.

The 1972 Citroën SM from Artcurial has undergone a first-class restoration and is presented in immaculate order which will make it the crowning glory of any classic car collector’s lineup of machines. It boasts a gorgeous in-period interior that is overflowing with retro vibes and, needless to say, we’re loving it here at Coolector HQ.

It was first imported in 1977 to Sweden where it was kept in the south, at Simrishamn, before it was sold in 1989 to a second Swedish owner and in 1998 was withdrawn from circulation as it was in a very decrepit condition but, as you can see, it has risen phoenix-like from the ashes to the remarkable condition you now see before you.

In 2016, the car underwent a comprehensive restoration by a Swedish SM specialist and they’ve done an incredible job in restoring it to its former glory. It received a new “bare hull”, as Citroën offered it from unused stock after production had ceased. In agreement with the Swedish authorities, the owner transferred the identity of the original car to this structure, which therefore remains preserved.

For the restoration, all the body panels (except the rear hatch) are said to be “NOS” (new old stock), and the car has been repainted in Vert des Tropiques AC 525, which matches the original colour it would have been.

All the mechanicals (engine, hydraulic system, transmission, exhaust, air conditioning and so on) have been completely redone and, to crown this monumental accomplishment, the owner found a new original interior that finishes things off perfectly.

The complete list of the replaced parts is extensive to say the least and can be discovered in its entirety in the folder that accompanies this lot from Artcurial. It is extremely rare to come across a Citroën SM in such an exemplary condition as this one and there will be a lot of classic car aficionados looking to get their hands on it.
