1991 PORSCHE 911 (964) BAJA PROTOTYPE #1

When it comes to cars, there are two things we’ve typically got a lot of time for here at The Coolector. Namely, Porches. And race-inspired aesthetics. So, needless to say, we’ve fallen mighty hard for this 1991 Porsche 911 (964) Baja Prototype #1 that is going under the hammer with luxury car specialists, Collecting Cars. This extraordinary looking machine is just about as race ready as they come and the lucky bidder will be getting one impressive machine added to their line up.

The 1991 Porsche 911 (964) Baja Prototype #1 from Collecting Cars has a current bid of $235k so it’s definitely not one for your average car collector and you’ll need deep pockets to ensure it’s yours by the time the hammer goes down on this one. This is an utterly astounding custom Porsche that has been put together by Russell Built Fabrication and designed to meet the brief of “the most capable purpose-built luxury off-road 911 possible”. Mission accomplished by the looks of things.

A WORTHY COMPETITOR

This breathtaking machine has little over 5K miles on the clock since it was built and it is powered by a 3.8-litre flat-six engine built specially for this car by Rothsport Road & Race. This monstrous motor can deliver around 360bhp and 310lb-ft of torque, coupled to a five-speed G50 manual transmission so you know it’s going to have your back when push comes to shove out on the race track. The build structure makes extensive use of aerospace-grade chromium molybdenum steel (chromoly), which has an especially impressive strength-to-weight ratio so you’ll be pleased with just how adventure and race ready this one is.

The 1991 Porsche 911 (964) Baja Prototype #1 is not your average build and it really is one of the most impressive customisation jobs we’ve encountered here at Coolector HQ. This glorious contraption was a finalist in the 2019 SEMA Battle of the Builders, and the ‘Baja’ 911 has received widespread global media coverage as a result and it is currently registered in California. To add to its exclusivity still further, this is the very first car in a limited series of numbered bespoke luxury ‘safari’ 911 builds.

While the body silhouette of this Porsche is immediately recognisable as 911-based, it is approximately three inches longer and 15 inches wider than a Carrera 4, and uses custom composite panels in place of original metal. It incorporates wide louvered fenders, a carbon-fibre roof scoop, lightweight doors, driving lamp pod, and no nonsense front and rear bumpers. There is also a unique roof and custom thermoformed rear window, and the bodywork was finished in white. One for the rally and Porsche aficionados out there.
