722 Ash Street House

Modern minimalist vibes are very much our bag when it comes to architecture here at Coolector HQ and this stunning build which goes by the name of 722 Ash Street House is definitely all the high notes. Designed by Studio 804, 722 Ash Street House boasts some 2000ft² of living space and is located in Lawrence, USA. Instantly engaging, this magnificent looking residential property has a distinctly barn-esque, understated aesthetic that it’s hard not to be impressed by.

The Studio 804 designed 722 Ash Street House is located slap bang in the middle of the rich culture of North Lawrence. The rear property line of the home is nestled alongside the Lawrence levee trail which runs for nine miles along the north bank of the Kansas River and provides some mighty striking backdrops and views for this first class piece of contemporary architecture.

Kansas Cool

The area in which 722 Ash Street House is located is synonymous with quality soil and huge trees before it spreads out into bigger farms further from the urban centre. The reassuring rumble of freight trains and farm trucks and the impressive sight of towering grain elevators are only blocks away from this fantastic looking home.

722 Ash Street House is home a family who enjoy being only a bridge crossing away from Lawrence’s vibrant downtown but, conversely, are far enough away to maintain their independence from many of the restrictions on living near the historic district of the town. The wood-centric design of this property ensures it fits in with its nature surroundings but also make it effortlessly eye-catching at the same time.

Taking design inspiration from the Midwestern farmstead vernacular of the region, there is a pleasing sense of tradition to 722 Ash Street House. A unique feature of this home is the Accessory Dwelling Unit permitted in the zoning district. It is a small separate residence on the same plot of land that can be used for income property or for extended family members. It also supports the city of Lawrence’s endeavours to deliver increased density close to downtown rather than continued sprawl into the countryside.

Sustainable Design

Studio 804 have used common-sense design to lessen 722 Ash Street House’s footprint and makes sure the owners achieve low energy use and costs. A 4.9 Kw solar collection system is located on the only south facing gable and the super insulated envelopes of all three forms easily exceeds the standards.

The architects behind this spectacular project continues their long standing pattern of keeping to the highest level of sustainable design while remaining contextually sensitive to the surrounding community. 722 Ash Street House is a real feather in the contemporary architecture cap of the studio behind it and we can’t wait to see what else they’ve got in store for 2021 and beyond.
