Archimedes Pilot Watches

We like all sorts of watches here at Coolector HQ but it’s fair to say that we’ve got a particular penchant for pilot style watches and there are few doing it better at an entry level price point than the watchmakers at Archimedes – and you can get your hands on a great selection from Worn & Wound’s WindUp Watch Store. The calibre of these timepieces is first class and if you’re after a pilot watch that you can get on your wrist for under $1k, these would be amongst our top picks here at Coolector HQ.

The Archimedes Pilot Watches from the WindUp Store are a real crowd-pleaser, with their always mechanical, no-nonsense pilot aesthetics which offer exemplary German-made quality and precision at a very fair price. Whilst it’s true Archimedes Pilot Watches aren’t the flashiest on the market they certainly aren’t lacking in character either. Most notably, the line of bronze pilots delivers a twist on classic style, and brings the rugged charm of a warm metal to an otherwise straight-forward pilot timepiece.

Take to the Skies

WindUp, the watch store of Worn & Wound, have recently added even more Archimedes Pilot Watches to their line up and one is a a pretty straightforward, but still exciting offering, in the shape of the Pilot 39 Bronze. As the name suggests, this is the effortlessly cool and stylish bronze pilot in 39mm, rather than 42. It is still a smidge under 10mm thick, the 39 case wears exceptionally well and it is the ideal size for those who want a smaller or more minimalistic watch.

In addition, they’ve added the striking Pilot GMT which takes Archimedes’s iconic pilot design and adds in one of the most useful complications out there. It is so functional because it adds the ability to track a second time-zone, which has been a staple of contemporary pilot’s timepieces, but not many do it as well as the Archimede. The simple 24-hr index at the centre of the dial is tracked with the bright red hour hand, which is a vibrant addition but doesn’t take attention away from the rest of the dial. It is the ideal timepiece for frequent travellers and it is available now for just $1,115.

One of the most affordable new additions to WindUp’s new range of Archimedes Pilot Watches is the “B” dial which is the watchmaker’s take on the navigator or “b-uhr” concept. This fantastic looking timepiece starts with their 42 x 9.9mm case and adds the more complicated, but highly legible navigator dial into the mix. It also boasts a large minute index and smaller inner hour index, which have all been painted in brightly glowing C3 lume for enhanced legibility in low light conditions.

Push the Boat Out

If you after a pilot watch that really impresses, WindUp have also added the Pilot Chrono TriKompax from Archimedes to their line up and it is one mighty impressive looking timepiece. This cracking accessory builds upon the classic pilot styling Archimede has honed and adds in a 3-6-9 chronograph. The result is a wonderfully well balanced dial that allows you to seamlessly add chronograph functionality to this iconic layout.

This stunning timepiece is powered by a ornately decorated top-grade Valjoux 7750 movement, with a special module to allow for the 3-6-9 layout and the Pilot Chrono TriKompax is a stunning behemoth of a timepiece that any pilot, chrono or German-made watch fan will appreciate and it can be yours for $2,345. Archimedes are one of the best in the business when it comes to pilot watches and WindUp have a great range to choose from.
