Casa Mateo

South American architecture, particularly contemporary designs, have a really striking and stylish aesthetic and there are plenty of examples of this in Mexico – not least Casa Mateo from Zozaya Arquitectos. This concrete seaside property is defined by a calming water feature on it is located on the Pacific coast with some amazing views.

The home is positioned on one of the highest peaks of the Punta Garrabo development in Mexico which gives Casa Mateo incredible views of the adjacent ocean and surrounding jungle landscape. The architects behind the build, Zozaya, were heavily influenced by traditional Japanese architecture in some design features of the home and we’re big fans of the interiors here at Coolector HQ.

Casa Mateo consists of two rectangular concrete forms with broad roof planes with three bedrooms and bathrooms to the left of the entrance, which is characterised by a coffee-coloured parota wood screen and a cotton fisherman’s net hanging rope to add some visual depth to the interior. To the right of the home’s entrance – denoted by a floor-to-ceiling sliding glass wall and white deep sea coral sculptures – are where you’ll find all the social spaces of Casa Mateo.

Local stone walls, steel accents and Volcani floor tiles deliver a muted grey palette in the living room, dining room, and kitchen spaces of Casa Mateo that open onto the terrace to enjoy those enchanting views of the Pacific Ocean. The main ensuite bedroom opens onto a breathtaking infinity pool with a two-sided waterfall edge that has views out toward the ocean. The pool was constructed around a pre-existing tree for a final visual flourish to the home’s design.
