Playing cards have been somewhat of a staple “everyday carry” for what seems like ever now. They’re both the perfect time killer when you’re on on a long train journey, and a fun thing to play with the whole family. When the deck comes out it’s always the ideal time to share a whisky with a mate, or even the perfect time to practice your old man skills, like when you see them sitting on their porch in the old movies.
Granted, we don’t see many people playing cards in public since the takeover of modern technology, but the essence of the game still stands up in 2015. The tradition will continue for as long as people have fingers. Take a look at a few of our favourites here at Coolector HQ below:
The Creative Cards project is all about injecting a little extra humour and colour into the life of the humble pack of cards. Simply put, Creative Cards is a unique way of celebrating the diversity of some of today’s finest illustrators, artists and designers. These extra special decks have each been individually designed by one of 54 international artists, each using their own individual style and distinct artwork to create their own deck.
Surreal, cartoon, futuristic, trippy, linear, humours, glamorous, art school…you name it, and they’ll probably be a word to describe each artists in their own way. The project is not only a great way to buy into an age-old game in a modern way, but it’s gives us a chance to discover and support an array of independent designers and art studios from the comfort of our own home. Plus, if you do fancy being that cool old guy relaxing in his rocking chair, you’ll bound to win in the cool steaks with a pack of these sitting neck to your family bag of chips and the 6-pack.
