Dogs & Doctors House

Scandinavia is known for their minimalism in design and architecture and Dogs & Doctors House from Pirinen Salo Oy in Finland is a fine example of this fact in action. Though it has a fairly impactful exterior, when you head within, it is a lesson in the understated and is the ultimate in serene, relaxing spaces in which to unwind. Completed this year, Dogs & Doctors House has 220m² of living space and can be found in the PYHTÄÄ region of Finland.

The quality of design with Dogs & Doctors House from Pirinen Salo Oy in Finland is plain to see right from the get-go and we’re huge fans of its balanced, minimalist design here at The Coolector. On a seashore, between pine trees, this glorious property consists of three little, seemingly separate buildings. Their facade is crafted from wood, burned to char, and their pitched roofs are light green in colour. Towards the street, there are very few windows, a garage, and the front door is hidden in a corner between the two slightly larger structures. The home is situated on a quiet end of a road, with sparsely scattered houses, surrounded by pine trees that leads up to what the locals call Swan Beach.

FANTASTIC FINNISH DESIGN

With Dogs & Doctors House there is a powerful immersion in the darkness of the charred wood. The darkness closes down the surroundings and builds up to a perceivable silence around the home. As the door opens, so too does the amazing views that this majestic looking property has to offer. The breathtaking archipelago has the whole interior at its embrace. Behind sliding glass doors the terrace steps head out into nature and every room of the house has a mesmerising sea view.

The hall of Dogs & Doctors House from Pirinen Salo Oy is a comfortably low space, that almost envelopes the residents and provides a sense of warmth and relaxation. From the hall, the ceiling rises higher into the dining area of the property where you will find a fireplace separating the dining area and the living room, and behind the living room, you will be treated to one of the best views of the waterfront that the home has to offer. From the living room, hidden behind a vast sliding door, there is a split-level staircase which meanders up to the master bedroom. At the top of the stairs, the warmth of the wood instantly changes the atmosphere. The bed is hidden behind two partitions, one being steel and the other wood.

Down the staircase, beneath the master bedroom of Dogs & Doctors House is where you’ll discover the main bathroom of the house. Descending to the dressing room the interior transfers into a soothing cement cave that holds a bath and an ultra-relaxing sauna. The sauna itself is darkened wood and has a serene, dark feel to it. Sitting in the steam of the sauna, the view opens up at eye level and from this warmth of the sauna there is a path from the bath to a terrace that can lead to a swim in the cooling Baltic Sea beneath.
