Farer Ponting Black Watch

Stealthy designs are something that look for in all walks of life here at Coolector HQ and this is particularly true of timepieces which is why we’ve fallen pretty hard for this awesome looking Farer Ponting Black Watch. UK watchmakers Farer are regular features on the pages of The Coolector and when they release limited releases like this Ponting Black Watch, it’s hard not to sit up and take notice so if you’re after a new timepiece for 2019, look no further.

The Farer Ponting Black Watch has a price tag of $1425 and it is a limited Edition GMT dual time + date automatic watch with an incredibly cool, stealthy looking dial and special finish DLC case that really makes this out as a special timepiece to add to any watchmaker’s collection. Available for pre-order now, this exemplary looking timepiece is extremely limited in nature so if you want one on your wrist, you should get your order in sooner rather than later.

Farer Game

We love the design aesthetic of all Farer watches but there is something in particular about this Ponting Black Watch that is especially appealing. It is a strictly limited run of 100 colour-way designs, which have been manufactured in a hardened ‘Diamond-Like Carbon’ coating technique for the case that adds a superb level of stealthiness and robustness. The DLC coating is a class of amorphous carbon material that displays some of the typical properties of diamond.

The Farer Ponting Black Watch is abundant in quality design features and the most striking of these include hardness, wear resistance, and slickness – creating a deep stealth-like black case in both polished and brushed finish. The Ponting Black’s matte carbon grey dial creates the backdrop to the boldly coloured steel blue main hands and engine red GMT hand with the classic sweep second hand finished in English green Farer A tip running around the edge of the dial.

With such a stealthy aesthetic, the Farer Ponting Black doesn’t immediately draw the eye but the main hour and minute hands, GMT hand and over printed numerals are all expertly infilled in two tones of Super-LumiNova – a non toxic photo luminescent -which transform the watch at night into a glowing thing of beauty and ensures that it remains entirely legible whatever the conditions. This collection of watches is named after Herbert George Ponting – born in 1870, both a brilliant explorer and photographer. He is best known for the iconic photographs he took whilst accompanying Scott’s expeditions to the South Pole in 1910.

Devil in the Detail

There are some first class details to be found with the Farer Ponting Black Watch and this includes 316L high grade stainless steel black DLC, polished case and rim, brushed lug tops, matte carbon grey, two tone Super LumiNova numerals, inner numerals and markers outlined in fine black, split tone outer second track, matching tone date window and steel blue vintage curved hour and minutes hands with mint Super-LumiNova infill, English green second hand tip with short engine red GMT hand with off-white Super-LumiNova infill.

The sub-$1500 price tag is an impressive one for such a fantastic looking timepiece that has certainly captured our imagination here at Coolector HQ. With only 100 being made available to purchase, it goes without saying that these timepieces won’t be hanging around on the shelves for long so if you want the ultimate in stealthy accessories on your wrist, you’ll need to move quickly to secure one.
