Five Shadows Residence

Big, bold and contemporary architecture is something that we’ve got a lot of time for here at Coolector HQ and Five Shadows Residence from CLB Architects has the characteristics in spades. Located in Teton Village in America, this amazing piece of architecture has some truly out of this world views but these vistas are rivalled by the eye-catching nature of the house itself – both internally and externally.

Vast in scope and impact, Five Shadows Residence from CLB Architects has some 12870ft² of living space and each area within the home has been cleverly designed to really make the most of the home’s privileged location. Positioned at the base of the Teton Mountain Range, this mesmerising property lives on the edges of a meadow near an aspen and conifer forest that cascades down from the summit of Rendezvous Peak. Slightly elevated above neighbours, the compound delivers a real sense of privacy, screens nearby buildings through structural orientation and strategic window placement, and takes in unbeatable views across the valley to the Gros Ventre Range.

INCREDIBLE CONTEMPORARY DESIGN

The truly cavernous house, which is reminiscent of a homesteader’s settlement, consists of five connected, symmetrical, agrarian-inspired structures. Boasting minimal overhangs, the compound is organised to ensure there is enough space for an extensive residential program. The largest form hosts the public spaces, while the peripheral volumes really ramps up the privacy on offer for the bedrooms and a relaxing den entertaining space.

With the three central buildings being linked by glassy connectors; they lie parallel to and offset from, each other. The remaining two forms, in turn, play their part in defining a series of bold and different outdoor experiences including the vehicle court at the entry, a west-facing courtyard that really provides exceptional views of that aspen grove, and a south-facing pool terrace which is surrounded by a detached pool house.

The exteriors of Five Shadows Residence are clad in stone, with subtle steel detailing that delivers a calming aesthetic that immediately draws you in. A similarly understated palette of rift-sawn white oak and white plaster graces the luxurious interior spaces of this majestic home in Teton Village. The seeming simplicity of forms and materiality is the result of extensive alignments and geometries, from the stone coursing on the exterior to the sequenced wood-plank coursing of the interior. All in all, a truly wonderful piece of contemporary American architecture.
