Laco RAD-AUX Limited Edition Watch

It’s not often we write about a timepiece that is described as being “post-apocalyptic” here at Coolector HQ but that’s something that we’ve got on our hands with the rather awesome looking Laco RAD-AUX Limited Edition Watch which is, without doubt, one of the most unique and striking timepieces that we’ve come across in some time. Billed as a post-apocalyptic adventurer’s watch from another world, you won’t see too many watches like this one from Laco out there and we’re loving the awesome vintage vibe it positively exudes.

The Laco RAD-AUX Limited Edition Watch takes its design inspiration from the Fallout computer game universe and sees Ariel Adams, of aBlogToWatch, serving as the creative director in its design. This magnificent looking timepiece from Laco is based upon their Auxiliary Observer, or “RAD-AUX” Limited Edition timepiece and looks out of this world. As a “wearable piece of conceptual art,” the Laco RAD-AUX is a functional tool watch, which has been crafted for the necessities of an alternate reality: namely, the Fallout gaming universe.

Alternate Reality Artefact

It was the intention of Laco and creative director, Ariel Adams, to create a timepiece that almost seems other-worldly and they’ve achieved that with aplomb with the Laco RAD-AUX Limited Edition Watch. As many celebrated watches are linked to some historical narrative or moment, the idea of creating a watch to suit a fictional lore seemed viable and that’s why the Fallout universe was chosen as the muse for this stunning looking timepiece.

Being inspired by the Fallout universe, the Laco RAD-AUX Limited Edition Watch had look as if it had survived the trials and tribulations of a wasteland wanderer, and that’s why German brand Laco were chosen. Watches from the first class watchmaker had the right ‘tool watch’ look they were after. Not to mention the fact that Laco have the Erbstuck collection – watches that have been hand aged to look hard-worn and very realistically aged.

At 42mm in diameter and 13mm in height, the Laco Auxiliary Observer has the same flat-lugged Flieger style case Laco is known for. The onion crown has been replaced by a more contemporary looking offering, which sits closer to the case but is still sufficiently textured for easy use. The RAD-AUX Limited Edition Watch has been inscribed where it would typically read “FL23883”, and a set screw sits at either side of the inscription. Boasting an ETA-2824.2 movement, this impeccable watch is made to the same high standard as any other functional tool watch. It’s certainly believable, and Laco’s Erbstück aging process adds to the legitimacy of it all.

Devil in the Detail

There are plenty of eye-catching features to be enjoyed with the Laco RAD-AUX Limited Edition Watch and the strap is made from both canvas and leather and features lots of interesting textures and details. It has a branded Pre-V style buckle, caution-striped keeper, and the most interesting bund you’ll find. Being perforated, it conforms to your wrist while remaining breathable, and really completes the look of a watch that could stand in for the Pip-Boy.

For any fans of high end timepieces and the Fallout universe, there really is no better watch for you than this stunning Laco RAD-AUX Limited Edition Timepiece and we’re big fans of its look and feel here at Coolector HQ. Stylish, brilliantly conceived and crafted, it’s safe to say you won’t find too many watches like this out there – until the apocalypse becomes a reality perhaps ($2950).
