Legacy Overland 1981 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40

Adventure is in the blood for many men and if you love heading out on the open road in search of adventure, you’ll need a steed that can keep pace with you and we can think of few better candidates for the job than this Legacy Overland 1981 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40. They’ve definitely decided to keep things simple with this build and, in our opinion, it’s all the better for it.

The Legacy Overland 1981 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 is an aesthetically impactful machine and, quite frankly, a master-class in painstakingly restoring a Toyota FJ40, where Legacy Overland have meticulously rebuilt everything from the ground up. This comprehensive frame-off build includes an engine which underwent a total rebuild with new pistons, rings, bearings, sleeves, polishing of cams, machining of all surfaces and valve ports to ensure a performance fitting of the 21st century.

Eye-Catching Detail

As always, Legacy Overland have gone above and beyond the call of duty with the details of this 1981 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 and it will certainly appeal to those with a love of vehicles dripping in old school cool. The exterior of this FJ40 was all taken back to bare steel and built up again by hand. This was carried out to remedy all flaws and straighten the steel panels to better than new condition.

For the Legacy Overland 1981 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40, all mechanical elements were rebuilt, both inside and out. One thing that the client requested for this build was that they swapped out the gearbox to substitute the original 4-speed manual gearbox with a 5-speed H55F gearbox. Maybe just a small thing – but a very worthwhile – departure from “all original” because it has a significant impact on the overall performance of the machine and makes it much more time appropriate.

While the original spirit of the FJ40 was kept throughout this build, Legacy Overland decided to add several tasteful enhancements as well. The most notable of which was the light and bright interior which takes its inspiration from the original Toyota Land Cruiser seat and door patterns, but upholstered in a light grey leatherette with matching edge trim. The floor of this FJ40 has been covered in a textured vinyl carpet with black edge trim and the roof getting the original-style perforated white roof liner.

Top Class Features Throughout

The passengers of this Land Cruiser are kept extra safe with an upgraded, extra-strength roll bar. All your music needs are met by a Bluetooth enabled RestroSound media receiver connected to two front door speakers and two rear speakers in custom sound boxes. Cruising on Old Man Emu suspension components and slightly lifted suspension gives the FJ40 a exceptional stance and means that you can cruise in considerable style on regular and on dirt roads alike.

Some of the most eye-catching features of this build include the custom blue exterior paint, the hard top with rear ambulance doors, BFGoodrich All/Terrain 285/75R16 tires, Jerry can painted in body colour with license plate holder, under-dash, slim line air conditioning and the upgraded brand new 5-speed H55F gearbox with input shaft conversion. This is undoubtedly one of Legacy Overland’s most impressive builds to date.
