Pearl Beach House

Australian architecture is capturing our imagination more and more late here at The Coolector and the latest piece of design to have our heads turned is this extraordinary looking Pearl Beach House from Polly Harbison. As the name suggests, it’s located in the Pearl Beach area of Australia and has some 200m² of living space. Completed this year, this highly contemporary and elegant piece of architecture and interior design looks like the ultimate relaxation space and great for the owners to unwind.

With a minimalist exterior, Pearl Beach House from Polly Harbison really comes into its own on the inside with some amazing interior design flourishes that are hard not to be impressed by. This project is the realisation of the client’s dream – namely, to build a bespoke, concrete sculpture in the bush, on a budget that demanded creative solutions. The site is found amongst Burrawang scrubby woodland, rainforest species and ancient grass trees, on the edge of Pearl Beach village so has one of the most magical settings imaginable in our opinion here at Coolector HQ.

Aussie Awesomeness

Taking inspiration from the patch of blue sky found amongst the dense tree canopy, the heavy masonry of Pearl Beach House wraps around this clearing, raising up the living areas to capture more of the sun. The carefully considered entry sequence defines the spatial layout of this impeccable residential property. This journey blurs the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces of the home in order to create a connection to both the surrounding bushland and sky. Off form concrete is deployed judiciously throughout the build and this is combined with low-cost materials within an understated colour palette.

The reliance on grey textures with Pearl Beach House in Australia enhances the homogenous sculptural quality of the building, and this is really bought to life by considered bursts of colour in the ceramics. The architects decided to use heavily grained timber in order to ground the building in its bush surrounds and allow it to blend in more and more over time.

A perfect combination of bold, concrete and sleek furniture and creative interior design, Pearl Beach House from Polly Harbison is exactly the sort of architecture that we’re fans of here at The Coolector and if you’re equally as enamoured with modern, classy builds, you’ll be in your element with this one as well. We can’t wait to see what new builds this Australian design studio comes up with in the rest of 2021 and beyond.
