SpeedKore 1974 BMW 3.0 CS

Needless to say, A-list celebrities have got the sort of expendable income to really push the boat out when it comes to car customisations and we’ve seen few better examples of this than the SpeedKore 1974 BMW 3.0 CS which has been purpose built for Iron Man himself, Robert Downey Jr. Speedkore are usually synonymous with creating hardcore Challengers and Chargers, but their latest project is a bit different both in terms of the clientele and the build itself.

This 1974 BMW 3.0 CS from SpeedKore, which is the workshop’s first European model, was crafted for Hollywood star, Robert Downey Jr who has previously turned to the talented team at SpeedKore to build him a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro and a 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 – so he knew that this build was in a safe pair of hands and, as you can see, he was quite right.

Old School Cool

Robert Downey Jr approached SpeedKore with the notion of melding contemporary materials with classic European styling with this vintage BMW. That being said, this isn’t your average SpeedKore build as the car largely keeps its metal body instead of relying heavily on the workshop’s go-to material, carbon fibre. However, there’s still no shortage of the material as it is used throughout the build including on the bumpers and rockers.

The 1974 BMW 3.0 CS from SpeedKore boasts a custom paint job, a woodgrain beltline and Cerakoted titanium grey accents – all of which combine to give it an unparalleled visual impact. Other striking design features include a custom rear spoiler and forged HRE wheels which have been wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tires. These are backed up with a Brembo braking system which has six-piston callipers up front and four-piston callipers to the rear.

The eye-catching aesthetic carries on within the cabin as SpeedKore and Gabe’s Custom Interiors joined forces to deliver an Italian-inspired cockpit with coffee-coloured leather alongside seats that boast “pebble weave” inserts. Other cool features include a retro-inspired dashboard with Classic Instruments gauges, a hidden touchscreen system and wraparound wood trim that adds to the old school appeal of the aesthetic.

A-List Features

With the 1974 BMW 3.0 CS from SpeedKore, there’s a Lamborghini-inspired grab handle and an upholstered trunk which is where you’ll find the awesome leather-wrapped Yeti cooler for road trip adventures. Downey Jr also had the rear seat taken out and replaced by a custom packing shelf, complete with matched luggage.

Power to the vehicle is delivered by a naturally aspirated six-cylinder engine which was taken from an E34 M5. The workshop at SpeedKore didn’t go into details, but the S38 engine had displacements of 3.5- and 3.8-litres which depends on the model year and market. A breathtakingly brilliant build from one of our favourite customisation brands here at Coolector HQ.
