1943 DODGE WC51 AND 1943 HARLEY WL

We’re suckers for good two for one deals here at Coolector HQ and that might be why we’ve had our heads turned by this amazing 1943 Dodge WC51 and 1943 Harley WL which is being made available from Hyman Ltd and could be yours for just $69,500. This stunning series of military vehicles will definitely add the wow factor to any vintage car and bike collection and they’re in fantastic condition to offer the ultimate in aesthetic impacts.

This 1943 Dodge WC51 and 1943 Harley WL Motorbike are a dream combination for vintage enthusiasts and Dodge’s relationship with the US Military started in 1916 when the Dodge Brothers provided touring cars to the government for use in an operation against Poncho Villa and his revolutionary soldiers from Mexico. The battle, which was in May of 1916 was the first time the US Army engaged in motorized battle, earning Dodge this somewhat dubious distinction.

Vintage Vibes

Classic cars of this calibre don’t come around every day and if you’ve taken a fancy to the 1943 Dodge WC51 and 1943 Harley WL Motorbike, you’ll need to move quickly to add it to your collection. The first WC-series (WC1 through WC50) was a ½ – ton truck that was deployed as a weapons carrier or staff car. In 1943 it was revisited and given an improved body for easier troop access, and upgraded axles and suspension allowing a ¾ ton capacity.

The 1943 WC51 is a stunning example, wonderfully well presented with period equipment that boasts a genuine 1943 Harley-Davidson WL (S/N 42-2136) military-specification motorcycle on a replica trailer. The WC51 is a first series ¾-ton version with the standard Weapons Carrier body on a 98-inch chassis. It has been painstakingly restored and has an exceptional attention to detail with excellent accessories such as full embarkation equipment (including shovel, axe, camouflage netting, jerry cans and armament cases) and it’s all presented in the colors of the 82nd Airborne division.

Towed behind the truck is a top quality replica trailer which has been crafted using period photographs and documentation. Everything you’d expect is there down to the authentic spring-dampened pintle hitch and military-spec wheels. Needless to say, some creative license needed to be taken in its construction, but it has a very authentic look and feel, especially in the small details like the jerry cans and ropes. The Harley Davidson WL was found years ago in a barracks, in its original state. The previous owner expertly restored the bike with just about every available accessory for the day, while still respecting the highly original condition.

First Class Condition

Each element of this great vintage vehicle collection is presented in superb condition and will really be the crowning jewel in any collection – particularly those looking to collect military vehicles. The truck runs extremely well, with the prodigious low-end torque (which peaks at 1000 RPM) of the 230 cubic inch inline six, ensuring it is easy and fun to leave in top gear and cruise around. The cabin is authentically crafted with basic canvas seat cushions, minimal instrumentation and basic controls.

The attention to detail with both vehicles really is second to none and needs to be seen to fully appreciated. This represents a very rare chance to purchase a real piece of World War II history, and will be perfectly suited for classic military gatherings, for enjoyment in the countryside or as a breathtaking talking piece in a collection of historically relevant vehicles.
