1971 DeTomaso Pantera

There are certain classic cars that positively shout out to us here at Coolector HQ and the DeTomaso Pantera is certainly one such vehicle, particularly when it’s as eye-catchingly awesome as this 1971 iteration going under the hammer with Bring A Trailer. If you’re looking for the cornerstone piece of your classic car collection, look no further because you’ve just found the ideal candidate.

The 1971 DeTomaso Pantera from Bring A Trailer has a current bid of $65k on it so you’ll have to dig deep if you want to make this the latest addition to your classic car line up but, in our opinion, it will definitely be money well spent. It is a Pre-L example that was first dispatched to O’Connor Lincoln-Mercury in Los Angeles, California back in the early 70s. It was said to have been owned by the president of the Southern California Pantera Owner’s Club for over 20 years and, as you would expect, is in a mighty fine condition both inside and out.

Vibrant Vintage Appeal

This stunning 1971 DeTomaso Pantera is finished in a bold and striking yellow and black scheme over black leather that will catch the eye everywhere you go. The power is provided by a 351ci V8 engine which is paired with a five-speed ZF manual transaxle. Some of the work carried out since 2016 includes installing a Pertronix ignition system, as well as a new timing chain, clutch, tires, suspension components, and more to ensure it performs as well today as the day it left the factory production line.

The 1971 DeTomaso Pantera from Bring A Trailer (current bid $65k) was designed by Tom Tjaarda, who was then working at Ghia, and it boasts an impressive steel monocoque construction. The seller of this lot reports that the car has been detailed, and the yellow and black exterior finish was wet sanded and buffed for a great aesthetic impact. The Pantera comes equipped with Pre-L split chrome bumpers and a quad-outlet exhaust with slash-cut tips.

The factory 15” Campagnolo wheels of this 1971 DeTomaso Pantera been detailed and were fitted with BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires that provide great traction. The suspension work since 2016 has included the replacement of the ball joints as well as the bushings for the sway bars, steering rack, and A-arms. The braking system also received new pads and soft lines, and the brake master cylinder and power booster were rebuilt.

Effortlessly Cool Interior

The cabin of the 1971 DeTomaso Pantera is upholstered in black leather and comes equipped with a vertically-mounted radio, air conditioning, and a gated shifter for the five-speed manual transaxle. It offers an extremely comfortable ride and we’re loving the vintage vibes that the interior of this classic car exudes.

There are only a few days left of this Bring A Trailer auction and with current bidding at $65k, you’ll need to move fast and have deep pockets if you hope to add this Pantera to your line up. It is in fantastic condition given it’s nearly half a century old and for those with a love of 70s classics, this is undoubtedly one for you.
