This 26R-Style 1966 Lotus Elan S2 Race Car boasts a 1.6L Twin-Cam Inline-Four engine, Lotus-Ford 4-Speed Dog-Box Transmission and comes in an impressive Metallic Green w/Black Removable Hardtop that we’re loving here at The Coolector. There is a distinctive race-day vibe to the aesthetic of this spectacular steed and we’re pretty sure there will be plenty more bids on this one before the hammer finally goes down.

Race-Ready Build

This majestic 1966 Lotus Elan S2 race car was acquired by the selling dealer nine years ago and has been modified in the style of an Elan 26R using parts from another donor car. The resulting build is made up of a Tony Thompson Racing 26R-style fibreglass body shell on a Modsports chassis, and the power is provided by a 1.6-litre twin-cam inline-four featuring dual Weber 45mm carburettors and paired with an aluminium-case four-speed transmission with a dog box conversion.

Additional equipment for this 26R-Style 1966 Lotus Elan S2 Race Car on Bring A Trailer includes a 4.11:1 Salisbury limited-slip differential, 26R-style knock-off wheels and front hubs, aluminium brake callipers and rose-jointed A-arms. A replacement 26R-style body shell with integrated fender flares was acquired from Tony Thompson Racing in the UK and finished in metallic green with a black removable hardtop and silver-painted bumpers.

Aluminium 13″ 26R-style wheels are affixed to 26R front hubs with three-eared knock-off nuts and wear A70-13 Hoosier Street TD S tires. The braking in this race ready machine is handled by four-wheel discs with aluminium Girling AR callipers. Some of the suspension modifications include rose-jointed A-arms, AVO front shocks, Koni rear shocks, and adjustable sway bars.

Authentic Interiors

The cockpit of this 26R-Style 1966 Lotus Elan S2 Race Car on Bring A Trailer boasts exposed fibreglass surfaces which are finished in white, a fixed fibreglass racing seat for the driver, a low-back bucket seat upholstered in black vinyl for the passenger, and a plumbed fire bottle – all of which add to the authentic look and feel of this head-turning vehicle.

With current bidding under $30k, you might just be able to bag yourself a bargain if you’re a race aficionado looking for the latest addition to your classic car line up. This 26R-Style 1966 Lotus Elan S2 Race Car is one of the coolest looking rides we’ve seen in a while here at The Coolector and we’re loving the air of authenticity it still posesses.
