Winter House

Truth be told, we don’t feature many pieces of architecture from our own shores here in the UK but that doesn’t mean to say we don’t have some amazing residential designs and Winter House from Scott Donald Architecture is a prime example of this fact. Located in the wonderfully named Rolleston On Dove, this contemporary piece of design is overflowing with awesome design flourishes.

Scott Donald Architecture was given a free rein to design Winter House which can be found in a rural area in the English Midlands. The result is a elegant, modernist home with dark shapes enveloped by art and nature. Positioned in a Conservation Area in the English Midlands, this impactful property nestles into its verdant surroundings with all floors inviting the tree-lined exterior in.

Green & Pleasant Land

With vast, glazed sections, particularly on the ground floor, connect the interior of Winter House to the outdoors and the impressively landscaped garden, which can be viewed from every room in the home. The common areas on the ground floor have a unified expression embodied by clean lines art and contemporary interior design endeavours. The upper floor of the home is where you will find its four bedrooms.

The architect behind the design, Scott Donald, chose Dinesen Heart Oak as a principle material for Winter House as they wanted something to contrast with the polished concrete floor throughout the house’s ground floor. Finished in natural oil, the Heart Oak positively exudes natural warmth and character. They were also keen for the bedrooms to have a feeling of serenity and a laid back vibe and the HeartOak material helps to accomplish this.

One of the coolest looking and striking pieces of British architecture we’ve seen in a while here at The Coolector, Winter House does a fine job of showcasing the design talents of Scott Donald Architecture. Filled with eye-catching materials and furniture and with a truly relaxing vibe this is a dream house that works perfectly for the owners.
