Farer Lander Chronograph Watch

Watchmaking is, of course, traditionally dominated by those heralding from Switzerland so it’s heartening to see more and more brands in the last few years really making a name from themselves from other locales and breaking the dominance of Swiss watchmakers. So far as UK watchmaking is concerned, it’s fair to say that Farer are one of the finest out there and they’ve proven this once again with the superb looking Farer Lander Chronograph Watch which is both abundantly stylish and impeccably well made.

The Farer Lander Chronograph Watch is the latest release from the British watchmakers and it can be on your wrist for the reasonable price tag of just £1675. This cracking timepiece from Farer is an automatic offering with a sea green sunray + date and overstitched American Horween leather strap which combine to make it one of the classiest looking watches we’ve seen in a while here at The Coolector.

British Design Excellence

Boasting a colour that was first used in the best-selling Farer Lander GMT, the Lander Chronograph is characterised by the unique sea green dial, which does a fantastic job of reflecting the changing light of the day to give a rich colour depth to the timepiece that is impossible to ignore. Framed by overprinted ghost white numerals, outlined upon close inspection, with mint green Super-LumiNova, this is one watch that immediately grabs your attention and sits in effortless elegance on the wrist.

The Farer Lander Chronograph Watch (£1675) has a central chronograph hand in burnt orange which sits over the highly-polished steel hour/minute stripe hands, gently tapered with pure white Super-LumiNova infill. You’ll find punched through the main dial design an equal inset oversized sub-dials with micro-fine spun detailing – which allows the information to be seen in sharp clarity. A matching date wheel at six o’clock balances the sub-dials without getting in the way of the layout of the overall dial. It also has second track markings in pure white with 5-second intervals in Super-LumiNova, which are framed by an outer angled flange with a sky blue Telemeter scale for measuring distance.

With a 316L stainless steel 39mm case which is built around the Swiss Made ETA 2894-2 Elaboré modular movement, which allows for a thinner outer case profile of just 12.5mm, it is easy to see why Farer are so proud of their Lander Chronograph Watch. The domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment is held by the outer brushed bezel, highly-polished case edges outline micro-blasted case side cut-ins and follow round to the dropped lugs. It has a four screw case back with flat sapphire exhibition glass which displays the movement and bespoke Farer bronze ‘turbine’ design rotor for a compelling visual impact.

Interesting Backstory

The Farer Lander Chronograph Watch is named after Richard Lander – the son of a Cornish innkeeper born in 1804 – whose career started in 1825 on an expedition to West Africa where he became the only surviving European member to return home alive. He then went back to what is now present-day Nigeria in search of finding a trading settlement on the River Niger so, it’s plain to see, there is a spirit of adventure acting as the inspiration for this top class timepiece.

The price tag of £1675 is a fair one for such a well made and attractive timepiece and we’re sure that horology aficionados will be snapping up the Farer Lander Chronograph Watch in their droves. This stylish looking timepiece is made from fast class materials and components and boasts the sort of understated elegance and refinement we’ve come to expect from this fantastic British watchmaker.
