Ferrari TdF ‘Double-Bubble’ Zagato

If RM Sotheby’s are running a sealed auction, you best believe the vehicle in question is something special and so it has proven with one of their latest sealed lots – this, quite frankly stunning, Ferrari TdF ‘Double-Bubble’ Zagato. Sotheby’s is proud to offer one of the most sought-after Ferrari sports cars in existence for this lot—a 250 GT LWB Berlinetta ‘Tour de France’ with coachwork by Zagato. Chassis 0665 GT is one of just five built by the renowned Milanese coachbuilder. It was created to compete at the highest level, finishing 6th overall and 2nd in class at the 1957 Mille Miglia, the final running of perhaps the greatest road race ever.

This majestic lot from Sotheby’s Sealed has been beautifully restored and won many awards at prestigious concours events, including the Strother MacMinn Most Elegant Sports Car Award at the 2022 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. This Ferrari TdF ‘Double-Bubble’ Zagato is now being offered for sale to the public for the first time in nearly 25 years. This is a rare opportunity to own a significant and stunning competition car from the illustrious histories of Ferrari and Zagato.

Chassis 0665 GT was the third of five Zagato-bodied Ferraris, and the final one to boast the firm’s iconic double-bubble roofline. It was also a more elegant and sophisticated design than the earlier cars, with covered headlamps, a narrowed grille, a softened rear end, and other minor changes. While the design was influenced by the earlier cars, Zagato no doubt also benefited from the input of its first owner, Camillo Luglio, who had also commissioned chassis 0537 GT a year earlier.

This outstanding Ferrari 250 GT LWB Berlinetta ‘Tour de France’ is a rare and beautiful car with a storied history. It is one of only five examples bodied by Zagato, and one of only three with the carrozzeria’s trademark double-bubble roof. It is also the only double-bubble example with the desirable covered headlights. This car is even more special because it achieved a podium finish in the final iteration of the most celebrated road race of all time. This car is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for someone to own a piece of automotive history.
