Chappie

District 9 was unquestionably one of our favourite films of the last few years here at Coolector HQ and really put the film’s director, Neil Blomkamp, on a pedestal as one to watch in the future. In his latest movie, Chappie, it looks very much as though he is going back to his roots with a brilliantly realised look at the issue of robotic artificial intelligence and the fantastic trailer above has got us waiting with baited breath for its release next year.

Chappie stars Hugh Jackman, Dev Patel and the vocal talents of long-time Blomkamp collaborator, Sharlto Copley, and follows the ‘birth’ of a robot and it’s child like learnings but, as the robot, Chappie, continues to develop and learn, it raises difficult questions about the artificial intelligence of machines. The first robot with an ability to think and learn breeds fear and hostility amongst many humans and the film follows the relationship between humans and machines and, of course, boasts the infinitely impressive special FX that Blomkamp has become synonymous with.

The film is set for release in March 2015 and we’ll just have to make do with the first class trailer above until then. If you were a fan of District 9 and Elysium then the Chappie trailer is going to put a grin on your face as big as the one we’re currently sporting at Coolector HQ and we can’t wait for this fantastic looking film to be released.
