Discommon Coffee Table

We’ve featured many pieces of designer furniture here on the pages of The Coolector but every now and then, one crops up that really makes us sit up and take notice and that’s certainly true of the eye-catching and supremely well crafted Discommon Coffee Table, which is definitely going to resonate with lovers of both interior design and automobiles because it combines the two superbly well.

The Discommon Coffee Table stemmed from an original thought of a striking vehicular shape which would emerge from liquid metal. This is a particularly difficult machining process and one that Discommon thought may not even be possible. They’d be removing almost all the material from a 4 foot long, 4 inch thick block of aluminum, and leading just a vehicle hewn into the table surface behind. Fortunately, they did manage to achieve it and the end results are glorious.

Not Your Average Coffee Table

With only ten of these amazing tables being made, and the painstaking craftsmanship that has gone into their creation, you won’t be surprised to hear that they don’t come cheap (starting at $20,000) but if you’re after a statement piece of furniture to really tie a room together, this could be the prime candidate. The Discommon Coffee Table lets those who choose the table pick the vehicle they want emerging from it and, so far, they’ve completed work on an Ford GT and F40 coffee table.

When buying a Discommon Coffee Table they ensure that you are involved throughout the entire process, and this includes everything from picking surface finishes and working on a texture plan to approving the vehicle design and, last but not least, choosing the hard anodize colour of the table – something which will be important to make sure that it fits in well with your own interior design endeavours at home.

Such detail and effort goes into the making of each of these Discommon Coffee Tables with each car design for the tables alone requiring between 25-40 hours of CAD work to understand the shape and fit it into the plane of the table. The F40 Coffee Table, for example, needed in excess of 50 hours of program engineering to cut the car from the aluminum block; and when you combine this with the twenty different tools used in the cutting, you get an idea of the work that goes into each table.

Superior Interior

For those of you that have deep pockets and a real loving of unique, innovative interior design products, these Discommon Coffee Tables are sure to be ticking all your boxes. The sheer scale of work that has gone into their crafting is enough to set them apart from the competition but for lovers of all things automotive, it represents the ideal opportunity to have your favourite vehicle immortalised in table form.

Discommon, as the name suggests, dare to do things differently and they’ve showcased this ethos once again with these amazing looking coffee tables that have to be seen to be believed. For furniture and auto aficionados, it doesn’t get much better than this and whilst our budget doesn’t stretch anywhere close to getting one of these in Coolector HQ, we can’t see what other vehicles find their way into the line up.
