To be honest, you’d think that we’d run out of positive superlatives to throw in the direction of the artwork of Simon Stålenhag given the fact he is probably one of the most frequently featured on the pages of The Coolector but, quite frankly, his work just continues to get better and better and with a new year comes an awesome new collection of stunning dystopian style pieces to be pored over and enjoyed.
The limitless talents of Simon Stålenhag never cease to amaze us here at Coolector HQ and the frequency with which he is able to churn out new pieces without ever compromising on style is nothing short of miraculous. And now, only a few short months after we last featured his work, there are half a dozen or so new pieces to blow your mind from both an art appreciation and existential point of view.
There is something deeply unsettling about the stark Scandinavian landscapes of some unknown future (or past) depicted in the artwork of Simon Stålenhag and we first fell for its charms three years or so ago and having been coming back for more ever since here at Coolector HQ. His latest collection carries on the already rich tradition of awesomeness and appears to have introduced an on-going detective character into proceedings which is a most welcome addition indeed.
Such is the attention to detail and impressive creativity within the artwork of Stålenhag that you can spend hours looking at the same piece and still be discovering clever little flourishes and features which have been added into the landscape and for fans of dystopian artwork, it’s fair to say that few do it better – hence why Stålenhag as ranked by The Guardian as one of the ‘10 Best Dystopias’, in company with works such as Franz Kafka’s The Trial and Andrew Niccol’s Gattaca.
Incredible skill has gone into the creation of all of Stålenhag’s work and whenever he has new pieces, it becomes quite clear that we’ve been loitering around his website waiting for them. Whilst not everyone will love this style of artwork, perhaps, it is exactly the sort that resonates with us here at Coolector HQ and his latest pieces have merely served to add more panache to his ever growing body of artwork.
Whilst you’d perhaps expect a keen eye for detail in any artist, few can possibly compete with Stålenhag on this front and when you consider the pace at which he produces his pieces, it is made all the more impressive. It’s plain to see why pretty big fans of the talented Swede’s eye-catching artwork and his latest pieces have served to reinforce this fact.
We can’t wait to see what else 2017 has in store so far as Simon Stålenhag is concerned and the creative powerhouse is sure to continue with these amazing dystopian vistas whilst also branching out into new avenues – and we cannot wait.
