The Water Cabin

If, like us here at The Coolector, the prospect of living water adjacent is a mighty appealing one then you’ll want to sit up and take notice of The Water Cabin from Olsen Kundig. You couldn’t be any closer to the water than with this infinitely eye-catching property that is a 1,580-square-foot retreat with 180-degree views that truly is an oasis on the water. Beautifully designed both inside and out, The Water Cabin is a real sight to behold and serves as an amazing space to relax and unwind for the property’s lucky owners.

The Water Cabin from Olsen Kundig can be found on Portage Bay in Washington State which is a breathtaking part of the world. Its western red cedar siding takes its design inspiration from weathered cabins in the region and the vertical slats, which are hung irregularly like trees in a forest, will weather over the years to provide a whole new aesthetic and yet they’ll require hardly any maintenance. Alow galvanised steel structure supports the oversized roof planes that have been implemented to help protect The Water Cabin from the elements while allowing the owners to enjoy the outdoor spaces.

Water World

The water-side living of The Water Cabin is really enhanced by floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors which open out to connect the interior with the exterior deck, thereby expanding the usable space of this exceptionally designed property. The interior is also expertly designed with wood being the main material used throughout, with warm oak floors and casework juxtaposing silver and black metals. The ceilings of The Water Cabin are clad with Russian birch plywood that extends out to the exterior soffits for a striking visual impact.

A great use of the available space really sets The Water Cabin from Olsen Kundig apart from the competition and the main bedroom of this property is located upstairs and provides out of this world, framed views of the water that stretches out before it. In addition, there is also a deck that extends out for relaxing and to watch the boats pass which is just about as peaceful and serene as it gets and a way of life that we could definitely get on board with here at The Coolector.

If living on the water appeals but you want more space and versatile living spaces than a boat can provide, The Water Cabin truly is a one of a kind and boasts all sorts of amazing features that we’re loving at The Coolector. It has an abundance of style both inside and out and makes the most of its perfect water-side setting. Olsen Kundig are a practice we’ve featured a few times now but The Water Cabin is definitely one of our favourite designs to date from this talented architecture firm.
