Makerball DIY Pinball Machine

If you’re anything like us here at Coolector HQ, you will have spent your formative years in the local arcades and whilst most were playing on the video games, we often tended to gravitate towards the more visceral thrill of pinball machines and that’s why this rather awesome looking Kickstarter project that goes by the name of the Makerball DIY Pinball Machine has got us sitting up and taking notice.

The Makerball DIY Pinball Machine is the work of Zurich based Make & Play and for those of you that have an affinity for all things pinball and have a creative spark, this is the sort of project that is going to be right up your street. If you relish the prospect of building your own things, this cracking campaign is the obvious choice for anyone with a love of pinball and it’s already starting to take off over on Kickstarter.

Pinball Wizard

Pinball is one of the funnest of all the arcade games in our opinion here at Coolector HQ and the thought of having our own, self-built machine is certainly one that appeals. The Makerball DIY Pinball Machine is a stable, highly customisable and, most importably, affordable means of getting your hands on a pinball table and the fact you can make your own hazards and obstacles really is something that will set it apart from the competition.

The Makerball DIY Pinball Machine boasts an unfussy and elegant design that you can tailor to your own needs through the variety of customisation features. You can also give this awesome looking design a digital upgrade if you so desire through a microcontroller and a free scoring app on your smartphone from the creators, Make & Play, which means you can start keeping a leaderboard on your phone.

Extremely easy to assemble, you can put your Makerball DIY Pinball Machine together in between 30 and 60 minutes depending on how good you are at DIY and the only tool you’ll need to put it together is a screwdriver – doesn’t get much more simple than that. As soon as assembly is complete, you’re ready to play and the Kickstarter campaign comes with a starter kit that includes a basic obstacle set of wooden obstacles, rubber elements, copper plates, metal pieces and magnets which can then be situated anywhere on the perforated wooden tabletop.

Analogue & Digital Design

The design of the Makerball DIY Pinball Machine is a really interesting one because it can contain both analogue and digital components, in what it’s creators call anologital, so you’re capable of creating exactly the sort of layout for your pinball machine that you’d like. Even if you’re not proficient in technology and engineering, setting up all the digital elements of the table are fairly straightforward and Make & Play have step by step instructions on their site.

For any lover of pinball and DIY craftsmanship, the Makerball DIY Pinball Machine is going to be a great idea for adding a touch of fun to your home or office. We’re big fans of pinball here at Coolector HQ and it’s no surprise to us whatsoever that this campaign is already starting to prove popular with those of a similar mindset.
