Vintage Vibes

This stunning 1953 Jaguar XK120 is a late-production Drop Head Coupe which boasts the striking Pastel Green over a Suede Green interior that will turn heads aplenty. It is a left-hand-drive US-market car, which was imported by Max Hoffman Motorcars and reportedly purchased new by William Prescott, a New York physician. Dr. Prescott and his family added approximately 53k miles over the course of seven years before parking the car at their summer home in the Thousand Islands, where it reportedly remained stored for more than 40 years. A vintage car collector bought the car from Dr. Prescott’s estate in 2001 and commissioned a refurbishment at George Medynski’s M&G Vintage Auto Restorations in Tuxedo, New York.

The 1953 Jaguar XK120 Drop Head Coupe on Bring A Trailer has undergone an extensive restoration and some of the work carried out includes a bare-metal repaint, reupholstered top and interior, as well as rebuilds of the 3.4-liter inline-six, four-speed manual gearbox, suspension, and brakes. Around 16k miles have been added since the work was completed in 2003, and the current seller acquired the car in 2011. This XK120 is now offered for auction with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, records from the restoration, factory manuals, and a clean New Jersey title.

This glorious looking machine from Jaguar was debuted in 1953 and boasts a lined convertible top, roll-up windows, and taller doors than OTS roadster XK120 models. The interior was retrimmed in dark green leather and light green carpeting during the refurbishment and the 3.4-liter inline-six was rebuilt by MG T’s in West Milford, New Jersey during the refurbishment and has a replacement cylinder head that was reconditioned by Terry’s Jaguar Parts in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Quantum Mechanics of Oxford, Connecticut reportedly rebuilt the four-speed manual gearbox in more recent years.

Authentic Sale

There are plenty of little extras included in this sale from Bring A Trailer which add to the authenticity of the purchase still further which includes a factory tool roll and jack as well as owner’s handbooks such as warranty and workshop manuals. The condition of the 1953 Jaguar XK120 Drop Head Coupe is miraculous considering that it is well over half a century old and for those wanting a visually impactful addition to their classic car line up, this more than fits the bill.

The 1953 Jaguar XK120 Drop Head Coupe on Bring A Trailer has definitely captured our imagination here at Coolector HQ and it is currently still available for under $50k which is certainly a fair amount for such an iconic steed as this.
